1.1 Project Background

This project is a key comprehensive sports landmark, requiring professional indoor gym lighting systems, of Central South University in Changsha, Hunan. Covering 16,000 m² with a total construction area of 27,989 m² and a total investment of 270 million yuan, the venue has been fully completed and officially operational.

It consists of an 8,383-seat multi-functional gymnasium and a 474-seat natatorium, utilizing specialized basketball court lights, badminton court lights and swimming pool fixtures to serve campus sports teaching, student daily fitness, professional competitions and event live broadcasting. The gymnasium supports flexible venue conversion for basketball and badminton events, while the natatorium is equipped with standard constant-temperature pools, covering multiple sports training and competition scenarios.

2.1 Pre-construction Pain Points

The original venue lacked professional sports lighting fixtures, with prominent functional defects: inconsistent lighting for different sports scenarios, severe glare and water reflection in the natatorium, inability to support professional competitions and HD live broadcasting. Meanwhile, traditional lighting featured single working mode, high energy consumption and manual cumbersome management, failing to match the high-standard venue operation demands.

2.2 Post-construction Effect

3. Design Standard: JGJ Sports Lighting Classification

The entire project is designed, configured and debugged in strict accordance with the JGJ 153 standard (JGJ 153-2016 Standard for Lighting Design and Test of Sports Venues), adopting graded lighting design for different functional areas to match daily training, amateur competition and international live broadcast-level event demands.

  • Grade Ⅱ (Amateur Competition & Professional Training): Applied to amateur basketball & volleyball courts, natatorium main and secondary venues.

  • Grade Ⅴ (HD TV Live Broadcast for Major National & International Events): Applied to the core professional basketball competition venue, meeting top-level event lighting and live broadcast standards.

All designs strictly control core indicators including illuminance uniformity U1/U2, glare rating (GR), color rendering and flicker suppression, achieving full standard compliance for all scenarios.

4.2 Intelligent Lighting Control System

The core basketball venue is preset with 7 exclusive scene modes: emergency, cleaning, training & entertainment, amateur competition & training, professional competition, national/international event live broadcast, and major top-level event HD live broadcast. The system can independently control lamp combinations and power output to realize one-key scene switching, realizing efficient, intelligent and energy-saving venue management.
